The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is a highly qualified and specialised consultant for all problems of the face and the oral cavity, including the teeth and the jaw. In contrast to other specialists; the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon has undergone intensive training in both general medicine and dentistry, thus acquiring a high level of competence in bone and plastic reconstructive surgery. Unlike a specialist in plastic surgery, whose training takes only six years and includes the entire body, the Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon must complete a seven year surgical training which specialises in the face.
